Company History
1989 Frem Ltd Established
Frem was established in 1989 and initially was partly Danish owned. The core business strategy was to import and distribute Scandinavian products from five main factories. Key products included executive desking, storage, task seating, library furniture and counters.
1991 Management Buyout
Following a management buyout in 1991 and in response to market requirements, Frem took a strategic decision to have all products such as reception desks and boardroom tables manufactured under license in the UK to its own specification. This led to a natural expansion and diversification of the range including the development into complete bespoke solutions.
1993 Aquisition of MDS
In 1993 Frem commenced its own in house manufacturing with the acquisition of MDS a wood based production plant. This was the beginning of the Frem culture to employ master craftsmen to maintain the highest standards in manufacturing bespoke solutions. This is a culture which has remained strong to the current day.
1995 Fg Corporate Design Established
In order to become a trusted advisor to the office furniture industry Frem set up its own design studio in 1995. This not only allowed the company to develop its product portfolio but allowed for a greater support to its dealer network and the A & D Sector.
1998 Fremtrac Mobile Shelving Range Launched
One major new product designed in house was Fremtrac mobile shelving and in 1998, after two years of development, it was launched in the UK. Moduflex manufactured the product under license.
2000 Frem Group and FG Library Products Established
In 2000 Bryan and Claire Daisy, the current owners, acquired 100% of the company shares and established Frem Group Ltd. Frem Ltd become a wholly owned subsidiary. FG Library Products was also established allowing the Group to develop a presence in the library market. New products such as wooden shelving, cantilever shelving and library furniture were introduced.
Recognising the niche nature of the market, FG Library was established by market specialists to launch and develop this key area of the business in both the public and private sectors. FG Library has since become one of the market leaders and offers a comprehensive package including consulting services, design and supply of a complete library fit out.
2004 Fg3 Manufacturing Established
Following acquisition of the Ruben Furniture production facilities FG3 Manufacturing was established in 2004. Following extensive reorganisation FG3 became the wood based manufacturer for Frem Group.
2005 Fg Installations Established
With a successful in house design and manufacturing base it was a logical step to complete the support package by establishing an installation service. This facility allows Frem Group to provide a concept to creation to completion service.
All fitters are fully trained engineers and are CSCS registered.
2008 FG Nott Established
Up until 2008 Frem Group had specialised in niche markets. Wiith the changing conditions and desire for growth the decision was taken to enter the general office furniture market and FG Nott was established.
Specialising in desking, seating and storage solutions from entry level to executive FG Nott provided a total one stop shop and with the support of other Frem Group products, was able to offer the largest and most diverse product portfolio in the industry.
2009 Moduflex Acquired
Following a trading relationship spanning more than 10 years Frem Group expanded its manufacturing expertise into steel production by acquiring Moduflex Ltd. This resulted in over 50% of all group products being manufactured in house including steel library shelving, racking and Fremtrac mobile shelving.
2010 Frem Kokuyo Partnership
In 2010 Frem signed an exclusive UK distribution agreement with Kokuyo, the larges office supplies company in the world.
With access to 50,000 existing product lines and the huge investment in research and development the partnership is ideally positioned to increase its product portfolio and market share over the next five years.
The partnership provided Frem Group with a much needed Showroom presence in Clerkenwell.
2010 FG Workspace Established
As part of a major restructuring programme FG Nott was rebranded FG Workspace. The product range was given a face lift with slow moving products deleted, a wide range of new items added. This change allowed the platform for planning expansion over the next five years.
2010 Bee-Spoke Acquired
In order to expand its wood based production capacity FG3 Manufacturing acquired Beespoke Ltd to form FG3 Manufacturing (Northern) Ltd. This also enabled production of lower cost MFC, laminate and veneer products as well as giving a local manufacturing centre for Northern dealers.
2010 Intelligent Furniture Acquired
To further diversify the Group product offering, and to maintain a high degree of uniqueness, Intelligent Furniture was acquired and FG technology established. The unique remote CPU unit which full integrates with all Frem Group furniture will help to change the office working environment in the future and position Frem as a pioneering manufacturing and innovation leader.
2011 Opening of FG Workspace Showroom
Adjacent to the Frem Kokuyo Showroom this space is devoted to FG Workspace products such as Bench 50 and the new Bench 80.
In addition FG technology has a high profile demonstrating the successful integration of technology in Frem Group products.
