Bournemouth & Poole College

North Road Campus

Brief

The client was looking for a fresh new modern Library design to fit the newly designed campus at Bournemouth & Poole College. The overall aim being that students would spend more study time in the Library.

The location for the Library was an old hall with a high ceiling. There was a need to divide the space into different zones, creating individual and group work areas, and devise a shelving layout which avoided straight lines.

Solution

Frem Group used large circular shelving arrangements to form curriculum clusters relating to different subject groups, providing the perfect solution for zoning the library. Bright and distinctive colours and highlights were used to further define each zone, with a base of white and grey to tie it together.

Study Pods with acoustic sound absorbing panels were used to assist with private group learning, and avoid students disturbing other users. This meeting space has proved to be extremely popular, and these are now available on a bookable basis. The clean lines of the Latitude shelving added to the sleek look of the Library. The corner stools create shape, and a place to sit whilst browsing. Patterned modular easy seating was positioned at the edge of the room so social use would not disturb the central study space.
